释义	南能北秀 nán néng běi xiù南宗慧能，北宗神秀，是唐代佛教禅宗的两大禅师，合称为南能北秀。慧能与神秀同事东山寺僧弘忍禅宗五祖。慧能接受弘忍衣钵，传教于岭南，故称南能。弘忍死后，武则天征神秀入京，传教于北方，故称北秀。参阅《景德传灯录》卷四、卷五。南宗慧能，北宗神秀，乃唐代佛教禅宗的两大禅师，二人同事禅宗五祖弘忍。弘忍圆寂后，慧能传法于岭南，故称为「南能」。神秀受武则天征召入京，于北方弘法，故称为「北秀」，二人合称为「南能北秀」。
