释义	慧遠 huì yuǎn东晋一位高僧的法号。西元334～416俗姓贾，雁门楼烦约在今山西宁武附近人。初学儒家、老、庄，二十一岁往太行恒山今河北曲阳西北参见道安，听讲般若经，遂从而出家。后入庐山住东林寺，领众修道。善于般若，并兼倡阿毗昙、戒律、禅法。因此中观、戒律、禅、教及关中胜义，都仗慧远而流播南方。曾与刘遗民等人，在阿弥陀像前立誓，共期往生净土，故后世净土宗尊为初祖。著名弟子有慧观、僧济、法安等，另有雷次宗传其礼学。
